Newcastle airport began life as a tiny airport in 1935. It is now a major airport handling over 5 million passengers a year. Package holidays were the main business for many years, but gradually scheduled services were introduced, and as a result the airport has developed into a truly international airport.

The airport has a mix of scheduled and charter airlines. Scheduled operators include Air France, Lufthansa, FlyBe, Easy Jet, Ryanair, Jet2.com, British Airways,Eastern Airways,Brussels Airlines and Balkan Airlines. Charter operators include ThomsonFly, Thomas Cook Airways,and First Choice.

The airport has one terminal, opened by HRH Princess Anne on 26th May 1994. The terminal has an excellent choice of shops, restuarants and bars. A new 1,000 square metre shop, Biza, opened in 2008.

Business travellers are welcomed with a dedicated business lounge, with internet connection.

Newcastle has a reputation for being a very well run, friendly airport. All  Newcastle Airport Parking is  close to the airport, with transfers from the car parks to the airport of between three minutes and  ten minutes.
